Cervical Spine Flexion

Cervical Spine Flexion Assessment:

What We're Looking for (Indicating a Negative Assessment):

Easy pain free flexion of the cervical spine in which the chin easily touches the chest.

Common Compensations (Indicating a Positive Assessment):

  • Pain
  • Failure to touch the chin to the chest (reduced range of motion)
  • Opening of the mouth
  • Stiffness
  • Too slow of a movement forward

Commentary:

You can see that model (my wife ;) has a positive assessment because her cervical spine range of motion is limited which is keeping her chin from touching her chest.
